Year 2 – February 10, 2013 – Gong Xi Fa Cai

2013_0210_S

Gong Xi Fa Cai means wishing you to be prosperous in the coming year.  It is a traditional greeting during Chinese New Year.  I get to celebrate the new year with my family and some friends in Mississauga.  Chinese New Year have always brought happy childhood memories. We used to go to the relatives house, expecting special gifts only bestowed during Chinese New Year call Hong Bao (literary means Red Packet) that contains money.  As kids, this was great opportunity to stock up on some pocket money.  Although Kelly came along with us, I am afraid that the meaning and the camaraderie is slowly getting lost in the generation of Chinese descendants living overseas.

Today mark the beginning of the year of the Snake.
