I received this tree from the Arbor Day foundation (I think) as a reward of some kind of donation.  When I got it, it was very sad looking and barely 12 inch tall and that was probably four or five years ago. I planted it in my front yard.  The tree has now grown and this is the first time I see it in its full bloom.  Quite a sight to see.  It is call Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is a large deciduous shrub or small tree, native to eastern North America from Southern Ontario, Canada south to northern Florida.
